(01) Risk disclosure

Trading crypto can lose you money.

Trading cryptocurrency, and especially leveraged futures, carries a substantial risk of loss and isn't suitable for everyone. The Market Lexicon is a software tool, not financial advice, and it doesn't make trading safer.

Updated . This page summarises the risks in plain terms; the Terms of Service are the binding document.

(02) The short version

Read this before you trade.

  • You can lose money. Crypto prices move fast. Leverage magnifies losses as well as gains. Only trade with funds you can afford to lose.
  • Not advice. We are not a broker-dealer, investment adviser or custodian. Nothing in the product or on this website is financial, investment, tax or legal advice.
  • You're responsible. You are solely responsible for any strategy you build, configure, deploy, publish or clone, and for any trades executed as a result.
(03) Backtests

Past results are hypothetical.

  • Hypothetical. Backtested and historical performance results are hypothetical and do not guarantee future results.
  • Easy to overfit. A strategy tuned to past data can look excellent and still fail on new data. See overfitting and backtesting in the Lexicon.
  • Examples are examples. Figures and strategies shown on this website are illustrative, not performance claims or recommendations.
(04) Automation and exchanges

Automated strategies act on your behalf.

  • Speed cuts both ways. Automated strategies can execute trades faster than you can review or intervene, and can produce losses as easily as gains, including in ways you didn't anticipate.
  • Your exchange, your funds. We never take custody of your funds. Your assets stay with the exchange, under its own terms.
  • Check your API keys. You're responsible for the permissions on any API key you connect, and for the consequences of granting more than a strategy needs.
  • AI outputs can be wrong. Some strategy steps use third-party AI models. Their outputs may be inaccurate, inconsistent or unavailable, and shouldn't be the sole basis for a trading decision.
(05) Shared strategies

Other people's strategies aren't vetted.

  • Not reviewed. Strategies published by other users aren't reviewed for correctness, safety or profitability, and their attached backtest results aren't verified.
  • Clone at your own risk. Cloning or running someone else's strategy is at your own risk.
